Download Online Videos directly on Smartphone

Sunday, June 09, 2013

With the rising trend of entertainment-on-the-move and much of our time spent outside home, we tend to watch and enjoy videos and other media items more on our Smartphones or Tablets. There are a plethora of options to download videos and music on PC or laptops from leading video sharing sites with the help of popular sites like Keepvid, Savevid, etc. and even a multitude of third party video downloading software.
But, when we want to save a video on our Smartphone, why should we use PCs as a third party to first download the video on it and then transfer it to our phone.Instead, we can download the videos directly to our phone. So, let's check out the tools and apps for 3 most popular mobile platforms - Android, iOS and Windows mobile.

Android

  1. Multiclip Pro, Mediaclip : Both the apps available free on Google Play store have almost similar APIs.The apps have a regular browser through which one can surf videos to download. Then hit the DL button on the top right corner of the screen to download it.The app supports videos to be downloaded from Youtube and Metacafe (We tested it on many other popular video sharing sites but it didn't work).
Pros : Additionally it can also download PDF and image files.
Cons : Lots of Ads and pop-ups are pretty annoying. No support for video files of different quality or resolution.

The other 2 popular Android apps reviewed in the post  below are non-market apps.To install any Non-market app, i.e, any app from sources other than Google Play Store, you need to enable installation from Unknown sources in Application settings. To work it out, navigate to Settings >> Applicatons >> check Unknown Sources.
