Microsoft to end Support for Windows XP and Office 2003

Software giant Microsoft Inc. has declared to end support for Windows XP and Office 2003 package on 8th April 2014 as a part of company's policy on the life cycle of products.Microsoft currently provides minimum 10 years of support for its products.It is certain that the drive will increase the penetration and sales of Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems.

What will it Mean ?
Those who will use XP and Office 2003 even after the deadline may face several issues as Microsoft wouldn't issue any Updates, Patches or Bug fixes.

Consequences one might face :

  • Security risks  : Due to lack of security fixes your PC may become vulnerable to various viruses and malware.
  • Lack of Third party software support : Newer 3rd party Windows applications or newer versions of existing software wouldn't extend support after the dealine.
  • Lack of Support for new Hardware : New hardware would no longer support Windows XP as drivers for the same won't be available.
The Solution :
It's high time for Windows users to upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8.The minimum system requirements are a 1GHz processor, 1 GB RAM (for 32-bit version) or 2 GB RAM (for 64-bit version),20 GB Hard disk space, Directx 9 or higher graphics device.
