Indian railways launch free WiFi service on trains

New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express becomes the first Indian train to have free WiFi facility for passengers.Launched by Honourable Railway Minister Mr. Pawan Bansal today at New Delhi station the WiFi is said to provide a download speed  of 4Mbps and upload speed of 512Kbps.
As per reports, Indian Railways has spent around Rs. 6.3 crore for the pilot project and are planning to add around 54 trains as a part of the project.

Accesibility on-board : To access the WiFi Internet facility, passengers would have to register using their PNR number, mobile number,ID details like PAN or Adhar number.They would get the login ID and password on their mobile phones by SMS.

 Technology behind : Techno Sat Comm in co-ordination with ISRO has designed the on-board WiFi for Indian Railways.The back-haul for the service is provided by a satellite link as primary link and 2G/EDGE/3G links as secondary links for back-up in covered areas like tunnels or covered stations.
